Optimal Fitness has created the first ever range of kettlebells especially for women.
Kettlebells are cast iron weights that look like cannon balls with handles and can be used as part of an all over body workout. These ones, though - in a move away from visions of hefty Russian weight lifters - come in a selection of sizes from 8 - 40kg and in a range of girly colours.
Also available is a DVD workout guide and wallcharts to monitor a users progress.
The Optimal Life Fitness range of Kettlebells for Women have been designed and created by founders BJ Rule and Tommy Matthews. BJ was one of the first personal trainers to use kettlebells and was so impressed with their versatility that it inspired himself and Tommy to regularly use them in their classes and then go on to create a range especially for women.
Optimal now also offers a range of courses training other fitness instructors in the discipline.
Key exercises include The Swing, which targets the bum and gets the heart and lungs going; the Front Squat, for opening up the hip flexors and developing the lower abs and core; the Dead Lift, excellent for all over strength and working the whole body; the Shoulder Press, an upper body developer which works to pull back the shoulder blades making the waist look smaller; and One Arm Rows, which focuses on the muscles that are responsible for pulling the shoulders back.
