Until recently, the trend in saunas was hiding the heater behind a bench, the theory being that by concealing it, customers couldn't interfere with it or touch it.
HELO, however, believes that customers want to see the heater and use it. Hiding the heater can also lead to its neglect, often resulting in poor performance and safety.
It is now reported that many of the first operators to install hidden heating are replacing their saunas with a more traditional Finnish style layout, where the heater is at the heart of the sauna creating a focal point for bathers.
All the company's sauna heaters are manufactured by its factory in Finland and its commercial models are built to hold as much as 120kg of volcanic rock.
The idea is that customers ladle water - sometimes mixed with eucalyptus - onto the heater, creating what the Finns call 'loyly'.
HELO says that a sauna with higher humidity feels hotter, meaning a reduction in running temperatures, savings on running costs and a greatly increased life for the sauna.
